WATER – MORE THAN JUST A SIMPLE THIRST QUENCHER

We all know that weary, run-down feeling that just doesn’t make sense.

You don’t know where the tiredness is coming from and can’t really explain it. Or why you’re being untimely peckish. How about a fuzzy brain or that nagging headache? Have you ever thought that it all can be “cured” quickly and easily with a tall glass of water? Just imagine…nice and cool.

But I don’t like water!

I know, I know… not everybody likes the taste of plain water. But there are so many healthy options for flavoured water like adding:

  • Mint
  • Berries
  • Lemon slices
  • Cucumber slices

Mine in the picture has cucumber and lemon slices, mint leaves and ginger water (grated ginger cooked in water and then strained). Extremely healthy!

But my disclaimer is to rinse your mouth with clean water from time to time to protect your teeth from the acidic lemon.

There is so much more to water than the mere obvious

Every living being on planet earth has an extremely strong survival instinct and we humans are at the very top of that list. That is what we are all programmed for.

And large percentages of our body tissues are water and need it for survival.

Now let’s see…

what is it you need to survive and what’s most crucial for you? Is it food, water, oxygen, that precious early morning coffee or maybe even your smartphone?

Be Watchful of Dehydration

By the time you start feeling thirsty, you’re already dehydrated to some extent.

Babies as well as the frail elderly are more prone to dehydrate easily when they’re sick or plagued by a tummy virus.

Most of us don’t like drinking water in the wintertime either. But even then we should still hydrate in a too warm enclosed area and more so when we’re ill or exercising.

I sincerely hope that the rest of this article will inspire you to drink more water.

Let’s look at a few very interesting statistics

  • 60% of an adult male’s total body weight consists of water. The brain is 75% water, which explains poor concentration and headaches when dehydrated.
  • Due to a woman’s extra fat percentage, 55% of her body weight is water.
  • A newborn baby’s water percentage is 79, where dehydration can be fatal!

To break it down a little further and see where the water hides

It’s understandable that our most vital organs need water, but surprise surprise… even our bones contain a fair amount of water.

  • Brain = 75%
  • Heart = 79%
  • Blood = 83%
  • Muscles = 75%
  • Kidneys = 83&
  • Liver = 85%
  • Bones = 22%

Importance of Water for Our Survival

Why every single system in our bodies needs water to function properly:

  • It helps with digestion.
  • An aid against obesity.
  • Helps the liver and kidneys to get rid of toxins.
  • Regulates body temperature.
  • Protects tissues and organs.

Eavesdropping

We know we have to listen to our bodies, it’ll tell us what it needs.

But who would think it actually listens to us and that it would react to our thoughts, words and emotions?

What the Bleep do we Know!? Documentary Film

In the curios documentary film What the Bleep do we Know!?, we see how dr. Masaru Emoto from Japan proved just that. He wrote the words “I hate you, you make me sick” and stuck them on a glass jar with water. On another, he put the words “Love and Gratitude”.

He then froze the water and took photographs of the ice crystals with a special lens. The result was astonishing in how completely different the patterns of the crystals looked.

As someone said in the film: “Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? If thoughts could do that to water, imagine what our thoughts can do to us”.
